Forget Superman......

We just finished reading "Hero Tales" by Dave and Neta Jackson. This book is awesome and has really inspired my kids. I love it! They loved it! These are real heroes!!! This book is a collection of true stories from the lives of 15 Christian heroes. The kids have learned valuable lessons of virtue through the stories presented in the book.

I would not have picked this book out on my own, but it turned out to be a nice piece to our curriculum this year. The stories and follow-up questions were challenging, but the lessons were kept short. We enjoyed many of the stories and learned many "character qualities" along the way.

We learned about the following heroes: Gladys Aylward, William and Catherine Booth, Amy Carmichael, Adoniram and Ann Judson, David Livingstone, Martin Luther, Dwight L. Moody, Samuel Morris, George Muller, Menno Simons, Mary Slessor, Hudson Taylor, Harriet Tubman, William Tyndale and John Wesley.

To be honest, my knowledge of Christian heroes is pretty limited. I have learned a lot from these books along with the kids. It's been fun to learn together!
I HIGHLY recommend this book. It's a great family treasure!!!!

We are finishing up our series on the Christian Heroes: Then & Now by Janet & Geoff Benge
I feel like I'm going through school again but this time around I'm getting so much out of it:)

That's fantastic to share these heroic tales with your girls along with learning yourself. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to keep my eye for this one. *wink*

Sounds great. Thanks for sharing! Also, it is interesting that we get to learn while we teach our kids... and we can pick it all. We have been focusing on camping as a somewhat Side Unit Study, so we did mosquitoes for Science. I live in the South and never in school did we learn about mosquitoes. Here they are as thick as the air you breathe. You would think they would teach about stuff that is relevant to your life. I am learning so much, too!

I can't wait to read this to my kids this year. I even bought an extra one, so both of them can read along.

We are using "Hero Tales" in our curriculum as well, we're using sonlight and we really love it...what curriculum are you using? What do you make your own curriculum up?? I'm sure you've posted about this and I may I missed it..if so I'm sorry for having you repeat yourself. Thanks again.
