Gettysburg......

you guessed it...
We bought a cd that walks you through the battlefields complete with sounds.
The two little ones fell asleep and the rest of us went back in time......

They climbed up to the top to look out onto one of the battlefields.....

Austin memorized the whole Gettysburg address. He got a patch to put on his jacket for it:)

And we couldn't leave without getting a picture with Abe!

As if a 2 hour tour wasn't enough, Daddy rented God's and Generals and Gettysburg for us to watch....
I think we are getting plenty of American History......and we haven't even done DC yet!
The kids have been playing war at the RV park. I hear things like,
"Mom we are going to play on little round top now."
They are learning SO much!

My husband, the History teacher, has always wanted to go to Gettysburg. They just got done studying this in class (8th graders). He had the kids dress up as Abe Lincoln and recite the Gettysburg Address for extra credit. 10 points for Austin!! Your kids are really getting the experience of a lifetime... public, parochial or home schooling really can't compare to actual hands-on/minds-on experiences! They really have to get out there to SEE and DO!!!

I love this! I hope to one day take my kiddos to the gettysburg! My son would LOVE that. I really like the quotes from Ben Franklin in fact my husband says I eat to live not live to eat at least 4 times a week! I will be quizzing him tonight to see if he knows who said that quote! My favorite is God heals the doctor collects the fees!
