My kids found a baby opossum fighting for his life in the pool yesterday. We took it out and it was shivering and looked like it was going to die. The kids felt so bad for it and asked if we could take care of it. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't just leave it there to die.. So we all put gloves on and got a heating pad and baby blankets then wrapped it up. I called the Opossum Society and left a message. Then called the vet. He told me once it gets warm try to feed it baby formula every 4 hours. The opossum is now doing good and we are taking it to the local shelter.

I don't know why you didn't just try and breast feed that poor thing.
I love the last pictures landens gloves all big. haha
How fun! We had one when i was younger. It was hanging on the fence and the guy that worked for us told us "Look hurry I got one monkey" (he didnt speak english very well) lol but it was no monkey! We kept it for years and years and it grew old and passed.
It was actually very tame and loved fruit. You are doing the right thing let a shelter take it, they can carry many things that the kiddos can get sick from.
I can't believe there's actually something called "The Oppossum Society" - you made that up right?
Only you Bridget, it could only be you who would save a wild rat!
Okay, so that is the ugliest, cutest little thing. Brad, my brother had a pet rat growing up, it actually was an easy pet. Being nocturnal (sorry, not sure how to spell that - which is kind of pathetic since I was an English teacher)it did drive him crazy at night. The pictures are too cute with your kids.
and I thought baby lizards were bad....ha!
they're cute when they're little...but try having an adult possum in your backyard attacking your cute little dog! they're evil little suckers...and they don't die! trust me, i've tried to kill it! :)
