Boy do I have alot. I better win this or you will have to end up buying me this book anyway.

*Teach him about Jesus and to love him.

*Teach him how to treat and respect a woman.

*Teach him how to set goals

*Teach him to have an undivided heart

*Make him see that life is too short and not to take anything for granted.

*Teach him the importance of friendship

*Camp out in the backyard with him like Brad and I used to do. ha

*Take him to see the snow.

*Make homemade ice cream on a hot summer evening

*Go to the drive in with a big bean bag chair in the back of the car.

*Take him to all the places and houses that his Dad and I lived in and grew up.

*Take a long family drive and make him listen to the same CD for 26 hours straight like Dad did to us. :)

I could probably go on all night but why am I sitting here doing this when Aven is asleep and I could be taking a long hot bubble bath since my husband is out of town :)

I want to take my children to Wittenburg, Germany where Martin Luther wrote and hung his Ninety Five Theses.

I want to see each of my children give their life over to Jesus.

I want to teach the importance of love and respect of each others as siblings, and that how they treat each other is a reflection on themselves.

I want to take my kids skiing in the Alps, before we leave Germany.

I want to take my children to Wales so they can experience the other half of their ancestory (we live in Germany, been to Ireland).

I want to make sure my children know how blessed they are to have a sister who fought with all she was, in her short 2 years of life, how much she LIVED I mean truly lived and see that tomorrow is not promised to us, no matter our age, so that they appreciate every moment GOD has blessed them with, and see how blessed they are to have a sister who is waiting for them in Heaven. (Today marks 9 years since our Jordyn went to Heaven).

I want my children to know they can come to me and their dad for anything.

I want to be the mother that GOD made me to be, so that they can look back and know how loved they have always been.

I want to not only travel the world, which we're doing right now, but take them to every state in the US.

I want to take them to Yellowstone National Park, and spend a week camping, getting down to the basics and just enjoying time with just us.

I want to see my children have special moment's with their Daddy, because he seems to deploy every other year, the moments they have with him are so precious.

I want to laugh with them daily. Remember that tickling is good for the soul. That tears can be freshing and cleansing.

I love this post and everyone's list of things to do. I'm happy to see pretty much everyone wants their children to know and love Jesus, as do I want that for mine. I want our children to grow up knowning how blessed they are, and that many others aren't so lucky. I want them to donate time, toys, a shoulder to cry on and be there for those who aren't. I would love for my kids to volunteer with me to help a family who is suffering from a member dying of Lou Gherig's diesease, (like my Dad did). I want to take them to walk the beaches of Hawaii, and float down the colorado river on our boat. Oh the things I want....

I want to sit and enjoy the little things in life. I'd love to sit and teach him about the good God does and help him understand my relationship with the Lord.

Before all of our children are grown and gone, I'd love to just get ONE STINKIN' FAMILY PICTURE with everyone smiling nicely and looking at the camera (and it would help if I was having a hair day from heaven).

Ok, ok, seriously? I'd love to take my kids on a family mission trip. Let them see life somewhere other than here in the US (or at least the middle-class part of it).

Bridget, this looks like an excellent book. What a great idea!

Before my kids leave home, I want them to grow deeper in their relationships with the Lord. I desire for them to truly rest in Him and what He did for them on the cross. I hope they will be confident in themselves, know what is right and good, and stand up for what is right and good.

I want to go to a beach with them. We live in the Northeast and have been many places, but we have never been to a beach with them. That....would just be the icing on the cake!

Thank you, Bridget!

You can't be that much of a christian.

You got married because you'd had sex, got a bun in the oven and was having his child.

Jennifer said...

I want to take my kids camping before they leave the house! If I don't win this book, I just might have to go out and buy it!

What a wholesome post and comments until anonymous came jumping in. Don't let it get to you. Christianity is for sinners... sinners saved by grace. I find it refreshing that you are open about your past. God took those sins and made them clean already. Don't let the devil tell you otherwise!!! "A" needs Jesus, so let's let him/her see Jesus in us.

"Anonymous", if you are searching for a good Christian influence you have come to the right place!!! You need to know that Jesus knew ALL OF OUR SINS before he chose to die for them... and he chose to die anyway, so that we do not have to bear the burdens (and hell) for those sins!!! We welcome your questions? Bring it on!

My desire is to raise 3 of the finest young men the world has ever seen. i want them to know how to cook, clean and care for the world around them. If they grow up to be good fathers and good husbands, my job will be done!

CONGRATULATIONS...you are the winner of the book!!! All I will need from you is your name and address and I will hand deliver this to you. I hope this book will help you and your children out since they have no hope with a mother like you.

Sorry Bridget you know me I can't keep my mouth shut. This goes to show you that Christians sin everyday. I am one of them.

I want to teach my son to be a real man, a man of God. I believe the world today is severely lacking real men.

I want to teach him to stand up for Jesus no matter the persecution that comes.

I want to take him on lots of vacations.

I want to make forts in our living room out of blankets.

I want to establish traditions.

I want to go to the beach with him.

I want to teach him to tithe.

I have so many, but I'll stop there.
I want

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."
Romans 3:23-24

"Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
Luke 5:31

"...there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."
Luke 15:7

"And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS."

Colossians 1:10-14

Jesus died for sinners, ALL have sinned. What God requires of us as Christians is not to perfect, but to repent of our sins. Repentance calls for a turning away from sin. A turning unto the cross. Repentance is a change. Bridget repented almost 10 years ago, and her life has changed, she is a new creation in Christ. I will leave you with more of Jesus' words:

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brohter's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
Luke 6:41

Thought of a VERY IMPORTANT ONE! I want my boys to know how to:
step 1: lift the toilet seat!
step 2: AIM
step 3: wipe any drips off the toilet
step 4: seat down / flush

THIS WILL BE A MIRACLE!!

First off I never want my kids to leave :). But because the reality of life is that someday they will there are many things I would want to do with them before. One that is most important is I want to spend each night with them and pray that as they grow and mature they know the love of God. I also want to instill the fear of the Lord in them before they leave because if they know that not only do they have to answer to me but also to God then they will make choices that will be pleasing to him. Thanks for the opportunity to share :)

mrs.deane said...

What do I want to do with them before they leave... Hmmm...

With God's help, I want to consistently set a godly example for them as to how they ought to live their lives, even if that means apologizing to them and asking their forgiveness if I've failed at something.

As for fun sorts of things...

Inexpensive - take them camping, and I mean really camping. Though I guess camping can get pretty expensive!

Expensive - take them to Europe for a summer - at least! So they can see all many of the places and things I've been teaching them about (well, technically I've only been teaching one thus far, but by the time we get around to this, probably they'll all have learned something European!)

Thanks for the giveaway, Bridget!

Blessings, Susan

I have 1000s of things, but I guess I mostly want to instill in them that the material focus of this world ultimately has little importance to us and the lives we want them to live. I want us all, kids included, to count their blessings and truly appreciate the simple, mundane gifts of our everyday lives. And I want them to know WHO to thank for all these simple yet joyful blessings in our lives!! :)

oh, and I really want to take them on a week long train adventure throughout the United States....but going to wait that one out until they are a bit older!!!

One thing that my husband and I are really commited to is taking our children on the mission field. For us it's Africa, becasue I feel such a deep calling to go and minister there. My children aren't old enough yet (they can't get the needed shots), but I really think God had layed this on my heart, and I'm so excited about the day when we'll be able to serve the Lord in Africa side by side:)

Hi Bridget,
Don't let anonymous comments get you down. The enemy wouldn't be attacking you if you weren't doing such a great service for the kingdom of God!

I want my children to know what marriage is really supposed to be like. How to treat your spouse with love and respect. Also, what loving parents are like. That we also make mistakes, but that our love for our children is a model for our relationship with Jesus Christ. Who wouldn't do anything (even die) for our kids?

Melissa said...

Neat book! Thanks!

Jasmine said...

So many things, first of all I want them to have a heart for God, I want them to have a good relationship with their dad and me, I want them to have a good sense of self so they won't give into peer pressure, and I want family traditions that they will be able to look back and remember a happy childhood.

Is anonymous serious??! *Dear Anonymous.... she must be a great mother and Christian if you for one, take time out of your life to read her blog, and two, are so envious that you have time to post something so rude anonymously* Jealous much?! Sorry... that's the SINNER in this Christian. Good thing our God is a forgiving one!

There are so many places I want to take my children, and so many things I want to do with them and teach them.

If money were no object, first on my list would be to take them on a mission trip to Africa or India or somewhere in South America. I would love to see them play with the children, love them, and help them.

If I can teach them about Jesus and train them up to live their life for them, my job will be done.

Ok, so I actually do have some questions.

If there is a God why does he let so many die? Particularly in Africa where so many of you say you want to go.

I'm afraid a child starves to death every 3 seconds in this world. Is introducing Jesus into their lives going to give them food, clean water and a cure to AIDS? I think your image of the children playing is a little naive. I wouldn't take a child of mine into a dirty dangerous impoverished area, where they may even catch malaria, and few treatment areas are available.
