Track Meet!

Yesterday we drove out to Escondido to have the 3 older ones compete in the California Athletics track meet. They have never done a track meet or practiced for one. So, all week I was trying to remember back .....way back when I ran track. I played coach all week to them and tried to get them ready for the big meet...We practiced our skills on the beach. Watched a couple youtube "how to" video's and prayed for the best.

California Athletics was founded by a very neat Christian man, homeschool dad and coach. California Athletics was created to meet the needs of homeschool families. They offer a variety of classes and competitive sports for all ages (in most areas of California.) Fundamentals of Sports classes are offered to homeschooled children ages 5 to 18 to teach the basic individual skills of various sports.
They offer fencing, Water sports,High School Sports Teams & Leagues. They have a tackle football league, a volleyball league, basketball teams in many areas, a soccer league, and track & field.
They also do ISA (International Sports Ambassadors...and travel to Japan and play against Japanese high school teams, US military teams and much more.
Austin is looking forward to this in a few years!

Since the kids were use to being involved with sports before we left on the road we thought this would be a good chance to let them compete. I really like Cal Athletics because they are competitive not that "every child gets a medal" type sports. Call me mean, but I like that you have to work hard to earn a medal! You have to learn to be okay with losing....

Austin doing the high jump...he took 1st place!
Austin is very competitive, he pushes himself to the max! He is very self motivated....here he is running the 400.
He took 1st in the 100 .........
and 400....... Not bad for his 1st track meet!
Faith didn't want to compete. I talked her into it and told her just to try...plus I would buy her new tennis shoes if she did:)
She gave it her best......
and enjoyed it! She was glad I talked her into it after all. Although she "almost" died...(she's a bit dramatic) she can't wait to compete again. She is going to work hard for a medal next time.

Landen was not yet old enough but we snuck him in...shhhhh don't tell. They are suppose to be 5 yrs old to enter but we figured he will be 5 in a couple weeks anyway:)

He competed against 5-8yr olds! He did such a good job! Here he is doing the long jump....

on your mark....get set...GO!
He started out running as fast as he could...then he realized all the people cheering for him on the sides and started smiling, showing off his dimples, and flirting with the audience...
he was too worried about soaking up all the attention he forgot he was running in a race.....
He came in last, but I think he should of got a medal for being the cutest runner out there!
He sure charmed the crowd:)
Here he is competing in the Javelin......

And these girls were busy being the cheerleaders............

posing and eating strawberries...
and playing with this 5mo old baby. They both lovvvve babies!
We had a great day. Daddy and I ran around trying to take pictures, video and cheer them all on as they competed in 9 different events, taking place all around the field.

I felt like I ran in a couple events by the end of the day....

After the meet we hung out in Dana Point and celebrated by eating at El Torito...a restaurant over looking the water. (Justin and I use to go on dates there all the time...way before kids) It was quiet and romantic....

Now we have party animals at our table....
sitting between us, on the sides of us, and across from us...

On our dates...Justin use to give me his sweet corn cake off his plate.

It was him showing me he loved me so much he would sacrifice his favorite thing on the plate...now I have 3 other girls I have to fight for a piece of that sweet corn cake!

But I love it!

That's so cool that your kids were able to participate in a sporting event like this. We are just starting to think about team sports for the kids and who is going to do what.

I love the picture of the little girls posing. The way that they are both doing the exact same thing cracks me up. : )

P.S.- I finally have my new blog up and running, in case you wanted to "stop by".

That is so cool!! I think I'm gonna look into something like that up here in Michigan. I'd love to have my kids compete like that.

Awesome! Looks like a great time! It brings back memories of when we would have our track and field day in parochial school growing up... :)

Ok I am cracking up over here at Landen. At least you teach them they need to earn their medals even if they aren't old enough to get them. hahah JK So funny. I can't wait to see Aven out there throwing a fit one day :)
